Tile Contractor in Holliston, MAHolliston rooms, one at a time.

Mid-century baths and older walls, about 18 minutes from Framingham on Route 126.

Holliston, Massachusetts

Most homes here predate 1970.

The median Holliston house was built around 1966. About six in ten homes here predate 1970.

That is the age of the original bathroom, with colored tile and a tub surround nobody has touched.

Eight in ten homes are single-family, and almost nine in ten are owner-occupied.

A house like this often gets redone one room at a time: the hall bath first, then the kitchen.

Holliston has a shoe-making past, and old village names live on: Braggville, East Holliston, Mudville.

Nearly one home in five predates 1940, and in those the floors dip and the walls lean.

About one in eight is from 2000 or later.

We tile those too, with the same layout work up front.

The houses here

Where a sixties house shows its age.

  • One full bath for everyone

Plenty of houses from the sixties have a single full bath.

Turning the tub into a floor-to-ceiling tiled shower is the change you feel every morning.

  • Floors over older framing

Older framing can flex, and flex cracks tile and grout.

We check the floor before we set anything, and we say so if it needs work first.

  • Kitchens with short walls

Mid-century kitchens often have short wall runs between cabinets.

A backsplash there is a small area, so it can carry a detailed tile or a glass mosaic.

We are based in Framingham, about 18 minutes away by Route 126 and Route 16 (Washington St).

American Tile installed a beautiful, glass backsplash in our kitchen. We had purchased the tile separately without Rodolfo’s advice, and we made an error in our selection of tile and grout combination. Rodolfo found the best solution, did the job (with great difficulty), made it right and we ended up with a gorgeous backsplash for Christmas entertaining. I would definitely call him again for our next tile project.

Questions

Asked in Holliston.

Can a small kitchen carry a detailed backsplash?

Yes.

A short wall needs less tile, so a mosaic or a patterned tile fits without crowding the room.

Send photos and we will suggest a layout.

Does Holliston water stain grout?

The town says its groundwater has high levels of naturally occurring iron and manganese.

Both can stain grout and fixtures, so we talk through grout color and sealing before we start.
